ღ-ڿڰۣ-٠ℜღŞε٠ڰۣ.ڿۣ-ღ (Scorpianrose) @ Cafe Musique 06/02/2023

Some time ago the Boomtown Rats sang a song asking "Tell me why?" and answering "I don't like Mondays." Its a common theme in at least two lives. Today I found the cure. Lured in by a somewhat misleading announcement (they me expected to read past "… naked."), I jetted over to one of my favorite venues, the venerable and always enjoyable Café Musique. You history buffs might, but I didn't, know, this week Café Musique celebrates its 8th Anniversary! No word on what, or who, Café Musique intends to do to mark this milestone, as the beautiful Laya Sugarplum, Café Musique's tireless (and ageless) owner shared, "We celebrate what we love to do every day!". Café Musique is the site of not one, not two, but three venues, including a sim restart busting one on Tuesday mornings. They also have rentals and a fabulous Open Mic on Fridays at 6 PM, and song writing group Tuesday at 5 AM.

Today's show was on the beach venue, where the tip jar is the large blue can in front of the tropical stage. And on this stage I got a chance to be thoroughly entertained by the amazing singing and wonderful crowd interactions of the talented and gorgeous ღ-ڿڰۣ-٠ℜღŞε٠ڰۣ.ڿۣ-ღ (Scorpianrose Resident), or Rose, as I'll write from here on out. This phenomenal singer started her show by announcing that she was single and does care about gender, but is looking for a good person. No, like a well behaved person, not one good at…. Or maybe I'm wrong. You'll have to ask her yourself about that.

Upon landing I learned I had in fact misread the announcement and Rose was fully (well, mostly clothed). I would have been disappointed, except she launched into a song that always has the same effect on me that music has on the Tasmanian Devil (anything for a down under reference to get the boss off my back), Snow Patrol's exquisite hit "Chasing Cars." Rose's next hit was the SL staple from a few years ago, "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars. I was happy to hear that my aversion to this song from its earlier overplaying was totally erased as Rose put a unique spin on it, getting me toe tapping and the rest of the beach rocking. Not missing a beat, she powered into a warm (you know what I mean, right?) version of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me". The line of fans with cups of sugar to pour on her was both long and unruly.

As we all tried to cool off in the offshore breeze, she was kind enough to give us a breather to compose ourselves with another Bruno Mars tune, "Talking to The Moon". You know how some artists spend hours developing playlists, with themes and stories? (I mean, maybe, theoretically, right?) What Rose does, is follow her heart and read the room (in addition taking requests). Which is why the logical follow on to "Talking to The Moon" was Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" and a song I heard for the second time this month, Miley Cyrus' "Love Me Better" (no editorial comments this time, see I can learn).

Seeing us on the edge of our beach chairs, Rose decided we all needed to be up dancing and pulled us there with a great rendition of "Send Me on My Way" by Rusted Root. If you don't know this song (but you probably do), you should. We clearly enjoyed it. It's always interesting to me, to hear female singers in SL cover girl group songs. My mind tends to slip from the show to the record, and often unfairly compare. No danger of that today when Rose let loose with "Eternal Flame" from that group with that girl who dated the artist formerly known as Prince…. The um.. Ah.. Yeah.. Bangles. Rose pretty much wiped them from my mind. Her next song was by The Weekend (you haven't heard of The Weekend? See my earlier blog of Grace Loudon). "And I Know She Will Be the Death of Me", a candidate song for my "Perfect SL Playlist".

I had been thoroughly entertained up until this point, both with the set, and the performances (and well the SET too). This next song knocked me back. I've never been a big Ozzy fan, but Rose's smooth delivery of "Coming Home" has made me want to learn some more about this icon's music. I was mesmerized from the first note to the end of this incredibly (seemingly) short song. Speaking of short, this next song, Martina McBride's "Valentine" brought an end to one of the shortest hours of music I've heard in a long time.

Look for Rose on the grid and ask your favorite venue owner to book her soon!

Music has always been Rose's passion. She grew up listening to all genres her mom exposed her ears to. . As an adult, the passion of music still flows through her and she loves being able to share her talent with those that will listen. She considers herself a cover artist and try to bring the same passion to each song that the original singer does. With a song base knowledge of over 1000 songs and counting, she loves requests and dedications. After all it's about what you as the listener cares to hear. You can keep up with Rose by joining her group Rose's Dozen.

"IF THE EYES ARE THE WINDOWS TO OUR SOUL, THAN MUSIC IS THE WAY OUR SOUL IS HEARD. "

Editor's Note: Here at DTS we are concerned with journalistic integrity. We ask our bloggers to include a picture of the artist and the venue. We looked through the pictures this blogger took, hundreds and hundreds of them, over and over, looking for a venue picture that did not include the artist ('s gorgeous curves). We were unable to find any, so we're allowing the venue photo to include the artist. We'll continue to look at these photos over and over and over... siiiiigh.
