Star Twilighton @ Cafe Musique 11/10/21
Café Musqiue is a well known venue in Secondlife. It is one of a handful of clubs that virtually every major performer in SL has played. With 2 venues and a campfire, featuring a well attended Open Mic session on Friday evenings, the musical opportunities Laya Sugarplum and her staff provide, are as close to boundless as anything in SecondLife. Over the years, Café Musique has been one of the places I'll stand while doing RL work. This has introduced me to no small number of excellent performances. Recently, I was standing there, minding my own business, when a new (to me) voice caught my ear. I confess, I was intrigued and made a point to catch this artist's other shows, including her regular gig at Café Musique on Monday, October 11th.
Star Twilighton's show on Monday is billed as "Mellow Monday" and certainly started out that way. Her delivery of the classic "The Autumn Leaves" was mellow, sublime and apropos all at once. Hearing her clear voice evoke the emotions of previous generations of greats like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole who have covered this song was a treat.
Those who know me, know I've been a bit of an Elton John fan in my past. I'm a sucker for classic (i.e. Non-Disney) John/Taupin compositions. My poor old tanker's ear can't hear everything, but I did hear the perfect musical rendition of "Your Song" Star delivered. Just as much as I appreciate Elton's musical abilities, I appreciate Bernie's lyrics more. Anytime those words change, my initial reaction is WTF? I can assure you Star's modifications, beautifully rendered, had 100% of the DTS bloggers in attendance swooning.
Not content with mesmerizing her audience thus far, Star locked us into her world with a brilliant rendition of The Eagles "Best of My Love". Followed by "Only the Lonely" from The Motels, Jim Croce's timeless love song "Time In A Bottle", America's tribute to California blondes and compromise "Sister Golden Hair Surprise".
As I mentioned, this is billed as "Mellow Monday", and the ever fan pleasing Star takes requests. The fans, including this writer, had emotions other than mellow stirring and articulated those emotions in requests, Star so graciously filled including Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff", Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", Queen's "We Will Rock You" (and rock us she did), Night Ranger's "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and Alanis Morrissette's "Uninvited"
The end of this wonderful hour at the fantastically decorated for Halloween Café Musique came with a sudden, unwanted rush as the every gracious, and seemingly every present hostess with the mostess, Brieanne Sweetbrier, thanked us all for enjoy the amazing Star Twilighton. I can both assure you that I did and that you will, when you catch her show (which you should do RIGHT AWAY)
St★r is often asked, "Where are you from?" and the standard answer is, "Give me a date and a time." As a young child and 'army brat,' St★r's family was stationed in the Middle East during the 70s when finding an American radio station was not possible. But, an observant nanny handed St★r a nondescript bootlegged cassette tape that resulted in endless hours of St★r's mind envisioning images derived from The Beatles' lyrics. She suspected she might be able to sing when she was unknowingly enrolled in her high-school choir, though she was always enrolled in band as an elective class. She realized after the first day of choir class that the high-school choir director was also her church-choir director.
St★r's travels and worldly connection makes her compassionate to the diversity that surrounds us; if a song is heartbreaking, her heart will break. Come hear how she brings all of her life experiences through her voice.
