Rosemary Teal at Cafe Musique 30/11/2022

Another late afternoon in SL found me making the rounds of some of my favorite venues and artists. I landed at the beach venue at the legendary Café Musique, breeding ground for new talent and familiar ground to many established performers. In addition to the beach venue, Laya, and the Café Musique support an indoor venue, a rolling restart defeating Alternate Location, and the always interesting Open Mic around the campfire on Friday evenings at 6 PM. There are just no shortages of opportunities to catch great shows and enjoy fun. Laya also has shops and rentals for people who really want to be a full time part of this amazing sim.

Today's treat for my ears was the energetic and talented Rosemary Teal. I caught her the first time last week at her regular Wednesday, 4 PM gig on the beach. I made a point to get back today, because not only did I want to catch another of her shows, I wanted to catch the whole thing so I could share it with you. Rosemary is not only an accomplished musician, she's gifted song writer. Her show today was a mix of covers and originals which she played in RL (and in SL on her PDA Mesh Guitar).

She started off today's set with Dodie's "6/10", followed by a great version of Norah Jones "Don't Know Why". Her clear, energetic voice pulled us all in. It's clear from her audience interaction she's comfortable on stage and that this was a 100% live show. Her original "Complex" allowed us to share part of her emotional journey to Café Musique. Getting back to covers, she launched into "Toxic" by Melanie Martinez, followed up with another original "Where I Live" and then a delightful version of No Doubt's "Spiderwebs". Her original reflection on bad choices "Fuck was I" was so much fun.

Then magic happened.

One of the most fascinating elements of live music performances is when the artist creates "loops". While I'm clearly a technophile, and comfortable with most things digital, the idea of a musician playing a few cords, singing a refrain, and then looping that in real time to sing over just boggles my mind. Rosemary, clearly a master of her craft, was able to do this with both her originals and covers. They dynamic nature of this kind of performance is, to me, a stand out quality that is worthy of admiration and respect and demonstrated in her original "Brightside (Doo Doo Doo)"

Peppering her show was delightful banter about her song writing process and comments about her song selection (and reminder why live music is so ALIVE). Rosemary did two more covers, "Elastic Hear" by Sia and a very excellent rendition of one of my favorites, the Amy Winehouse staple "Valerie". Her last song, was again an original, dedicated to her husband "For All Of Time", which she shared was part of her transformation as a song writer from angst ridden lyrics to love songs.

Rosemary Teal is a singer/songwriter with a huge library of original music that she recently started performing live. The positive feedback and encouragement has helped her to gain the confidence to begin releasing her music out to the world. She loves learning new songs and puts her own spin on the covers she performs. Her music style varies from indie/folk, to pop/punk/R&B.

This is an artist I encourage you seek out on the Grid.
