Rapid Randy @ Wildcat Country - 19/6/22
Happy Father’s Day to all you SL and RL father’s out there!! What an amazing and beautiful responsibility God has given you. American Evangelist, Billy Graham, once said “a good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society”. Fathers are meant to protect us, support us, and provide for us. And the majority of you dads out there are doing an amazing job! I remember being a “daddy’s girl” – little princess, and the apple of my father's eye. Unfortunately, my father was sick most of his adult life and died when I was only 15. I don’t think I ever fully recovered from that loss, knowing that the person who thought I was the most valuable gift in the entire world was gone. So dads, the best and most important thing you can do is love and take care of your babies. Although there are days you may not think you’re important to your children, you are so very critical to their development and happiness.
So, what other way to celebrate Father’s Day than to find me a real manly, strong, cowboy artist - that being Rapid Randy! Rapid Randy was performing this fine evening at Wildcat Country, owned by Jared (Jarrod.ramer). Wildcat Country is one of my favorite venues with a wooden floor for my boots to make clickity clack sounds when I’m dancing, stone designed walls, and a gigantic stage and dance floor. One of my favorite things at Wildcat Country is the Jim Beam Sploder that hangs from the ceiling in the middle of the venue. Being a gambling girl, I must admit I’ve won plenty a dollar betting on the sploder!!
Rapid Randy just fits into Wildcat Country like a glove fits onto a hand, a sock onto a foot, and adds heaps of country Tennessee swagger to this dynamic venue! He reminds me of that laid back country singer type who doesn’t have a care in the world. The kind that has that infectious smile, is happy to see you, and will play whatever your heart desires just to make you happy. My first request of the evening was “Turn the Page” by Bob Segar. The song tells of a rock star on the road and how much he misses his lady. All the dads on the road trying to make a living away from their families must miss them incredibly. Randy’s rendition of this song made me imagine all the wives and little children waiting by the phone for daddy to call in the evening.
Another favorite of mine that Randy slayed was Neo’s request – “You Are the Love of My Life” by George Benson. Singing with delicate compassion, a mixture of heartfelt affection and tenderness, had all the ladies swooning in the arms of their man, including myself!!
The following are the tunes Rapid Rady performed from his sizable song list:
Two Dollars in the Jukebox - Eddie Rabbitt
Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to you) - Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers
How Forever Feels - Kenny Chesney
Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett
Dumas Walker - The Kentucky Headhunters
Wild Horses - Garth Brooks
Heard it in a Love Song - Marshall Tucker Band
Amie - Pure Prairie League
One Margarita - Luke Bryan
God Bless Texas - Little Texas
Drinkin My Baby Goodbye - Charlie Daniels
Randy sang a song called “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” sung by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. This song has a funny history to it being that it was written by a frustrated guitar player named Ed Bruce and his wife Patsy, and he called it “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Guitar Players”. Ed was a loner, didn’t provide enough for his family, and felt his career was going nowhere. Patsy suggested he change the name from Guitar Players to Cowboys because cowboys were “modern day knights and heroes to country music fans.” Ed recorded it with his own voice, and it became #15; but when Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson recorded it, it took off like a rocket lighting up the sky!! I’m so happy Rapid Randy that your momma let you grow up to be a cowboy. You bring fun and happiness to SL with that singing voice and with that twangy speaking voice that invites everyone into your heart.
Thanks, Randy, for a fun fun evening!! Huggsss Trishia
