Marina Sharpshire @ Camp Anatine 10/03/21

When you see an event listed at Camp Anatine you just know that you are in for FUN. Tonights event was an 80's theme and Marina Sharpshire was kicking it off, so I delved into the depths of my wardrobe to see what might be lurking there. Hidden under a pile of shoes was a box labelled "open at your own risk" so with great trepidation i pulled it out, lifted the lid and was blinded by the glare of a shimmering disco dress. Muttering to myself that I wouldn't be the only one dressed like a rainbow, I slipped it on , along with matching boots, glanced out my window to make sure the neighbors couldn't see me and quickly tp'd over. Upon arriving I half expected to see the fashion police hauling people away but instead amongst the leg warmers, big hair and aerobic clothes (coughs Sapphi) I found Marina Sharpshire dressed in full punk rocker gear, complete with a shocking pink mowhak that would have left parents of 80's teenagers cringing. Looking at Marina I was sure that I was in for an hour of the Ramones but talk about not judging a book by its cover, for when Marina started to sing her voice came out so soft and sweet that it was in total contrast to her look and had me thinking that if I wasn't single it would be nice to slow dance to her singing romantic ballads. From Roxette, Glass Tiger, Adam Ant and The Pointer Sisters Neutron Dance, Marina had the crowd in 80's reminiscing mode. talking about the good old days of rootbeer flavoured lip gloss, bad perms and eyeliner heated up with a lighter...weird, but it was Marina singing Nena's 99 Luft Balloons in German that was a highlight for me. A fantastic fun night, lots of laughs with familiar faces and new and old friends. Packs the dress away for another 30 years.
