Kris Composer @ Kat Vargas Memorial - MS Benefit 07/11
One of the most amazing things I've encountered in my over 16 years in this world is the way people will pool time, talent and treasure to support each other and worthy causes. Another amazing thing, is the depth of connections we make on our various journeys through the metaverse. Sunday these two concepts collided in what can only be considered a super fusion of love, respect, generosity and caring. I was humbled to be at the amazing Love Kats II, venue, generously donated by the incredible Kat Chauveau. Donated you say? Not the first amazing donation of this inspiring day. Because you, see, Sunday was a Benefit in honor of long time live music manager, my friend, Kat Vargas, who suffered from MS and left both SL and RL last summer. More about Kat V in a minute.
This benefit concert featured a roster of amazing artists, some whom worked with Kat V, and some of whom just knew her from oversized presence in the live music world. In the DTS lottery, I was lucky enough to draw Kris Composer, for my first artist to cover. Fresh off his storming of the Tampa Jam, Kris delivered a series of amazing hits, all designed to honor his first manager in SL.
Let me set the stage for you. With Kris' downbeat the MS society donation box showed about L$8,000 in very generous donations. Kris opened with Tom Petty's "Running Down The Dream", followed by "Close To You". It was about here Kris shared a bit of his work with Kat Vargas, the woman who's loss brought so many generous spirits together. He also encouraged the audience, to contribute to the MS Society donation box as he launched into Huey Lewis' "Some Kind Of Wonderful", followed by one of his original works "Dream In Reality" (that's kind an SL themed title). The Supreme's "Can't Hurry Love", "Wild World" by Cat Stevens, "Abracadabra" from the Steve Miller Band" had the whole place jumping. I thought it couldn't get more energetic, until Kris belted out "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" from Don Henley. He eased off a bit, giving our cardio some time to recover with Phil Collins' "Another Day In Paradise".
And what a recovery. As I was catching my breath, I glanced up at the donation box. We'd hit L$20,ooo!! Kris wasn't done yet. He continued his tribute to Kat with a compelling rendition of Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" and then Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors". If I couldn't tell how he was connecting with Kat's friends, the donation box screamed it out at over FIFTY THOUSAND Lindens.
What a show!! And it wasn't over. Kris closed us out with Autograph's "Turn Up The Radio" and finally, after an hour the screamed by, he gave us a lyrical reminder that we citizens of the metaverse are never alone with "Message In The Bottle" from The Police. To thunderous applause, Kris turned our attention back to the reason we were all there, to honor the incredible Kat Vargas, by donating to the MS Society. And donate her friends and family did. We had over L$88,000 in the box when Kris walked off stage.
Love Kat’s started as a DJ club in 2010 and started exclusive live music 7 years ago. There are 12 to 15 shows a week. Kat Chaveau also has a public beach below the venue that is open to the public and has shows as well. There are several entertainment spots including the main venue. It's a labor of love but she gets a lot of joy providing a place for people to come and enjoy music. Kat Chaveau features all kinds of different musicians so there is something for everyone.
Kris Composer is a multi-instrumentalist, who enjoys music and looks forward to performing and sharing music. He's been doing this for a few years and enjoys every moment.
