Jack Slade @ Home 21/05/22
Imagine yourself in a smoke-filled bar, the aroma of whiskey and beer permeates the air. On stage, this long-haired guy with his guitar and amp, a mic in front of him, probably sitting on a stool. The "real" songwriter setup. While you're eyeballing the guy or girl at the bar next to you, this deep, sensitive voice takes over, drowning out the chatter and laughter until it's all but stopped as everyone turns towards him. They settle in their seats, still laughing and flirting but quieter now, as to not drown him out. For a moment you've forgotten about the guy or girl next you, quietly ordering another drink and focusing only on the holder of the voice. Welcome to a Jack Slade show.
Singer, songwriter and musician; Jack Slade brings a unique, moody feel to his originals and covers. There's a hint of sadness; melancholy as his darkly romantic bass voice gently fills you with emotion and a genuine desire to hear more. Call me biased, but Jack has quickly become my favorite Second Life artist and rarely do I miss the opportunity to listen to him play.
Let's be honest though. If you're hoping for an hour of party and dance tunes, Jack is not your guy. His songs typically have some meaning to him personally and he's choosing to share them with whomever might relate. His cover of Oceans by Seafret is just gorgeous. He makes Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan his own with ease but while those songs are great and familiar, it's the originals that pull at your heart strings. I've Loved You All My Life, and What Am I Still Doing Here are only two examples of his numerous original tunes. His lyrics are though-provoking, testimonial in many ways. It is clear he has poured out every ounce of emotion he has into the music he plays. His guitar creating the atmosphere, hitting all the "sad" notes to perfection with skill only achieved from years of playing. The guy knows his way around his instrument. Jack Slade makes it seem almost effortless.
Jack, though on occasion out and about in Second Life, prefers to play in the setting of his own SL home; an eclectic mix of rundown buildings, bohemian furnishings and a coke machine that kept my money. Just about every evening at 5pm slt.
