Icky At The Shack 28/10/2021

SL is well noted for its variety, of people, sims, experiences and particularly music venues. Many of these venues offer incredible builds, fabulous views, interesting poseballs, and regularly, great singers. The Shack, combines some of the best attributes with your favorite venues and adds a twist that makes it stand out. Poppy Threebeards, the sim, and venue owner, only books live (not tracks) musicians. Now, don't get me wrong, I truly, truly enjoy a great oral, er, vocal performance (see previous blogs). There is something quite unique about enjoying a performance that harkens back many nights enjoying live music in pubs in Germany in my mis-spent youth. Set in a very comfortable beach setting, you can almost feel the breeze in your hair as the next perform tunes up and does an amp check. This is a place YOU HAVE to visit if you appreciate musicians who play and sing.

Today, the "next performer" was the renowned Icky Flux, who was dual streaming (if you don't know what this, think white magic, but without the virgin sacrifice), with long time RL collaborator, Sumertelse. In addition to being an accomplished singer and guitar player, Icky also writes original songs. I can tell you, my favorite song in today's set was his original "The Real Me".

The set started with Icky performing White Stripe's "Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground", followed up by The Jam's "Butterfly Collector". Icky then introduced, in his pronounced Yorkshire accent, his first original, "Changed Inside".

Next up on Icky's hit parade was "Too Close" from Alex Claire, Bob Dylan's tribute to "Blind Willie McTell", then Blind Willie McTell with "Lord Send Me An Angel Down". If you don't know the story of Blind Willie McTell, its worth taking a moment to look it up! Hearing an acoustic version of a rock band's song performed live is a great treat. The unique interpretation of "Apeman" was thoroughly enjoyable and a great musical experience providing a whole other dimension to rock and roll greats, The Kinks.

Then back to White Stripe and "7 Nation's Army", then another Icky original "Get Away" and the obligatory Halloween Week song, "I Put A Spell On You" and finally, my favorite song in this set, Icky's original work "The Real Me"

Joining Icky on stage, and on the stream (one of the GREAT things about all live music) was his RL bass player Sumertelse. Sumer has been a base player for 25 years. He shares Icky's Yorkshire (what continent is that on anyway) accent. Icky is a Live singer and guitarist. Playing acoustic Blues and Delta slide in his own very special style, covers / versions of Elmore James, Son House, Muddy Waters and many more great Blues men. If you have never heard Icky Flux, a real treat!
