Evee @ Sinful Retreat 27/10/21

There some really, really good singers in SL. You go to their shows, and its an hour of perfectly executed hits that are note for note like the recorded versions. Each is a great tour d'force of an accomplished singer. At the end of the show, it was almost like being in that final take of the recording session. Then there is Evee. She can do all those note for note pop songs, but her best shows see the talent gloves come off, and you get a unique, all encompassing, experience of what musical greatness can be like. I happened to catch her recent gig at Poppy Morris' birthday party at the Sinful Retreat. This show did not disappoint anyone expecting a bewitching hour gratefully suspended between eargasm and side splitting fun.

After a warm greeting, with her genuinely felt reminder of how indebted we all are to the venue owners, she opened her first song. All the men, and no small percentage of the women, were happy to answer the sensual question "How do you want me?" Meg Myers' song "Desire" posed. Her next song, captured the collective state of the cigarette smoking audience, Lady Gaga's "Speechless". One of the great treats of an Evee show is when she takes a popular song and finds a slower, or unique arrangement. Tonight was treat night, with a slow piano version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene".

You'd think someone of Evee's youth would struggle to capture the intensity of a singer famous well before she was born. Evee's delivery of "White Rabbit" reminded us how great Grace Slick was with Jefferson Airplane. She continued her tribute to "old people music" with a powerful rendition of Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son". The kind of performance that makes stadiums rock, the big ones.

Having wowed us with a slide across the spectrum of pop music, she slid back to what might be her comfort zone. Making female artists say "Hmm… I should have recorded that this way". First up in the "How it SHOULD be done parade" was Adele's "Someone Like You", then a twofer of Sara Bareilles songs, "Gravity" and "She Used To Be Mine", Oasis' "Wonderwall", and Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy".

Having demonstrated an absolute domination of so many musical genres, Evee spent the last few minutes of this amazing hour where her amazing talent is truly show cased. Show tunes. From Cabaret "Maybe This Time" and Frozen 2 "Show Yourself"

I've covered the eargasm side of things. Now a brief word about side-splitting. Evee hate's jokes. During some of her shows, her erstwhile manager, Nikole, will collect jokes from the audience and share them with our redheaded entertainer. Hearing Evee shout out "I was going to tell you a road work joke, but its under construction. HATE IT" (and many other similar jokes) is one of the great things that make this a performance, as opposed to a recording session. I hope you get a chance to experience a side-splitting eargasm soon!

In addition to the stage at Sinful Retreat, there is an amazing art gallery with incredible works of art. You can find something suitable for any home in SL. Put this place on your Christmas Shopping list! (and NONE of their inventory is on ships, I promise!)
