Erin Chronic @ Place To Be 01/02/2023
Updated: Feb 5, 2023
I've been asked a few times what keeps me blogging for DTS. I'd like to tell you it’s the great pay. Or the work environment free from sexual harassment from the management. Sadly, neither of those is true. What is true, is that I'm a bit of a homebody (in at least 2 worlds) and creature of habit. Blogging (even intermittently as I do) pulls me to new venues in search of new (at least to me) singers that I learn I want to share with you. The other night, I hit a 2fer. I landed, quite early, at a fairly new venue, called "Place To Be", in the adult, private sim, of Island of Joy. The proprietors, Riley and Byrnsy Sɳσσԃʅҽ-Aɱσɾҽ, are gracious hosts. Place To Be is casual entertainment at its finest. The venue includes a bar (where you can find one of 2 tips jars) the stage, and a grass dance area. I wasn't able to find an intan. The location is a city and brings to mind an evening of drinks after work, in a park on the way home. The second tip jar is harder to find (but worth the effort!), a cute bird house on the right side of the building. Despite her "new" name Riley has been around SL for quite a while, even longer than this author. Her depth of knowledge and experience bring a calmness to Place To Be that compliments the sanctuary among chaos of the setting.
The second part of my 2fer this particular evening was the chance to hear Erin Chronic delight the audience with a varied set list. Erin started off with Harry Styles' "Falling" and then launched into Miley Cyrus' answer to Bruno Mars called "Flowers". An interesting lyric, "Flowers". While I appreciate the need for self-reliance, in my own experience, I've found that I benefit more from community than being alone. I think that's true of the vast majority of SL residents. We seek community and other people (even with our perfect avatar proxies). Anyway, I digress. Erin did a great job with this "recovery" song.
Her next number was a rarity in the music world and she did it well. How many movies are there really that have two songs that everyone associates with the movie, and only the movie? Erin chose the love song view of "Top Gun" and treated us to Berlin's "Take My Breath Away". Returning to the theme of empowered women, she delivered a fantastic version of "Take A Bow" by Rihanna and followed that with "my hair" from Ariana Grande. Without missing a beat Erin shared the very sultry "Black Velvet".
Highlighting the breadth of her song list she entertained this old man (no, I showered Harlow) with The King's (that's Elvis for you young 'uns) "I Can't Help Falling in Love". Seamlessly transitioning into a "modern" song from one the plethora of tragically gone-to- soon artists, we enjoyed "I Don't Know Why" from Amy Winehouse, the first of two Amy songs in this set. The second followed right away and the audience swayed to an acoustic version of "You Know I'm No Good" from the tortured artist. As the top of the hour approached, she shared the, for me, ever reflective, "'Imagine" from John Lennon.
Erin's last song of this wonderful hour was a playful (and perhaps deliberate) invitation with the Lisa Loeb song "Stay". As much as I would like to have stayed and enjoyed another drink at Place to Be, there were deadlines to meet, film to develop and blogs to post. (I am, in fact, afraid of the management at DTS. The punishments for missing deadlines can leave marks (and sometimes smiles)).
Erin Chronic is a singer in SL bringing a fresh voice to the classic songs of our time. She is known for her bluesy pop performances. Erin adds classically trained powerhouse vocals to everything from acoustics and piano ballads to hip hop beats. Come see her live!
Editor's Note: Place To Be is set as a park in a beautiful city. The pictures don't show it justice because this show occurred during the sim rollbaack and presented many technical challenges to our photography team.
