Djembe DragonFire @ Burning Dragon TOA Halloween Festival 02/10/21
Fall is in the air, and along with the cool weather here in the north east, we have changing leaves, apple cider, pumpkin everything! Oh and there's also goblins, ghosts, County Fairs, Horse pulling, fried dough and charity events. Today in SL we had the seasonal TAO Halloween Festival charity event to benefit KIKA and hosted by ||Winter|| (11Winter11) and his partner Holly Giles (hollygiless heartsong). The venue was decorated for Halloween, and they did a great job of "creepin you out" right down to a tar pit that sucks you down to the bowels of the earth. Ok, I exaggerate a bit but it was great!
The venue board was loaded with some of SL's best artists, from those that have been here since they arrived on the Mayflower, to some fairly new talent. I decided since my girl was hosting a couple of great performers that I'd come by to keep her company. (Actually to keep the wolves away from my "witchy woman". Grin) Anyway, as a blogger I'm always looking for someone that I can write about and share with others the amazing talent that abounds in SL.
Djembe DragonFire was the featured performer at 12 noon and boy did I hit it lucky! Djembe is without a doubt one of the best singers I've heard in terms of quality of voice, range, and versatility. His voice is crystal clear and he is able to go smoothly from contemporary, to country, to rock and then to classical!
He opened his set with "Club At The End Of The Street" by Elton John, and from there it was "some new, some old, some showtunes. "There were songs like Ed Sheeran's "Perfect", "Let's Face The Music and Dance" by the late, great Nat King Cole, and "You Had Me From Hello", (my request for my sweetheart, Trish) a Kenny Chesney favorite. Just when I thought I was properly impressed by Djembe, he sings a smooth rendition of "If I can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast. But wait, that's not all. He doesn't know it but he won the heart of my lady with his "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" by Madonna and from the show, Evita! Trish said, "don't you forget to tell him I loved him!!"
He kept things going with Daughtry's "Start of Something Good", "Lucky" by Jason Mraz, "Night Shift", an oldie by the Commodores, "You Can Leave Your Hat On, a signature number of Joe Cocker's, "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me", sung by several greats including Gladys Knight, Quincy Jones, and played by Duke Ellington. Wrapping it all up so that the only thing missing was a bow, Djembe ended his set with "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel. And there you have it folks...a smorgasbord of some of the best songs done by an outstanding SL artist. Djembe thanks for sharing your talent for such a great cause!
