Cranston Yordstorm @ The Fern Jazz & Blues Lounge 07/02/21
There’s nothing like a bit of jazz to get you into the swing (pardon the pun) of things for a great day. My day didn’t start out so well and I was feeling a bit down as we sometimes do so I headed over to The Fern Jazz & Blues Lounge to see Cranston Yordstorm and his band the Storm Front Blues and shake my blues away. The Fern is a small very intimate club, tastefully decorated with an air of romance about it, where everyone was beautifully dressed. Now I have never been a real fan of jazz until the last few months and people like Cranston are why I have changed my tune (groans another pun) completely. In between belting out some great songs including Stray Cat Strut, Moon River and New York State of Mind, Cranston took the time out greet the audience and introduce the members of his band. Happily taking requests there were 2 songs that Cranston had said he hadn’t sang in about 3 years but you would never have known if he hadn’t have said anything such as they were very polished performances. His jazz version of Bohemian Rhapsody was quite different but very entertaining, I am sure Freddy Mercury would have never envisioned it sung quite that way. Cranston is so smooth and such a charmer that I am sure all of the ladies in the audience were completely under his spell, my blues were well and truly gone after the hour was up.
