Chillee Hernandoz @ Lascola Nostra Rural Township 30/04/21
What do you do at 5pm on Saturday night when your lady is away for the week and you are at loose ends as to what to do? Well I found the perfect solution for me.
I hit LASCOLA NOSTRA RURAL TOWNSHIP in time to hear the opening number of CHILLEE HERNANDOZ! Was I impressed? Was I ever! She and her band, consisting of Bass, Drums and Guitar give meaning to the word professional. Chillee busted some moves, starting off her set with “You Should See Me in a Crown” by Billie Eilish. Spotting a friend in the audience, she sung “Bad Guy” by Eilish for him, which I thought was very cool. Well, by this time she totally had us and sang her version of “I Feel Like a Bullet” by Elton John.
Now talk about surprises, Chillee’s next number was the 1964 song “You Don’t Own Me” by the legendary (well for some of us oldersters anyway) Leslie Gore. Let me tell you though, it was anything but 1964! She made it hot, sexy and just plain great! Following this and turning up the temperature was her "Don’t Cha” by Pussy Cat Dolls. Then was her own style of “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia, “Call Me The Breeze”, a Lynyrd Skynryd number and the Beatles great, “Come Together”.
Chillee showed her ease in shifting gears when she struck up “Hush Little Baby” a popular old lullaby but also done by Aretha Franklin. Then came one of my favorites, “You Can Leave Your Hat On” by Joe Cocker. Now I can’t speak for the other guys in the crowd but if that didn’t get their motor running then I hope they took their pulse. Finishing off her set, but leaving us wanting more, was “Something New” by Nikki Yanofsky and “Do Not Disturb” by Halestorm. A fitting end to one great hour of song and accompanying music. I’ll be catching a Chillee Hernandoz set again for sure! If you want to hear a great artist then catch Chillee for sure!
