Marina Sharpshire

It's been a while since I did an interview with a Featured Artist so when Marina Sharpshire agreed to be our March Artist I was beyond thrilled as she is someone that I respect and admire greatly. She is fun, she is sassy, she is gorgeous and she has a voice that is simply divine.  So without further ado lets find out "Who Is Marina Sharpshire"

Harlow: You have been here for 12 years now, can you tell us just who is Marina Sharpshire?

Marina:  I can't believe it's been 12yrs!!  First thank you for even entertaining the idea to add me your ever growing list of amazing artists, I'm a fan of a lot of the people you feature.  I hope Marina is someone who goes through SL with some integrity, sometimes she fails, but tries to learn the lesson.   If you really want to know who Marina is, get 4 or 5 of my friends together, get them drunk, they'll spill the beans, I find it difficult to talk about myself.

Harlow: How did you come to be performing here, do you remember your first gig and what it felt like?

Marina:  You never forget your first...lol...June 27, 2018, My first show was at Elixir, it was a 30 min set, I was so nervous I was sweating and my voice was shaking, it was at once the best and worst feeling.
How I came to perform in SL is a boring story, the nutshell version is that it was a personal challenge to overcome some fears.

My personal journey from rubbish singer...usually when I'm out with friends and we're singing karaoke I am often drunk enough that I mercifully manage to block out the entire sorry episode.  With the help of a good friend, some patient listeners and some good backing tracks I finally stepped out and fully prepared to fall flat on my arse, which I've done many many times since then!

Harlow: You have met several other SL artists in here, in RL through RL Jams, what's it like meeting people you know as avatars and make music with them?

Marina:  I'm a total Fangirl when I get to the jams.  A lot of the artists that go to the jams I've been going to their SL shows for years before I started singing.  The jams are an opportunity to make music magic.  They also make you step up your game because you have to think on your feet.  High energy for sure!  Everyone gets lanyards with their SL name because we wouldn't know anyone's RL name, so you also get to meet the fans behind avi's that you've seen at shows around the grid.

Harlow: SL is a melting pot of creativity. Is there anyone in particular that inspires you and makes you want to grow as a person and performer?

Marina:  That's a really great question.  In SL you have access to people from around the world, everyone has something to teach you if you are open to learning.  I think when you grow as a person it spills over into the performer side of you.  Within 2 weeks of becoming an SL resident I met my oldest and dearest friend.  When you get to know someone for that long his positive outlook and energy has definitely come through the wires, past the technology and the screen, you can't ignore that kind of spirit and not try to incorporate some of that essence into your world.

Harlow: You do quite a lot of performances for The Anatine's, and lets face it they are an awesome tribe and so much fun, what is it about them that is special to you?

Marina:  They are holding my guinea pig for ransom.   If I don't do what they say they are going to shave him bald...individually The Anatines are like that crazy aunt or uncle every family has that you're not sure what's going to come flying out of their mouth at family gathering, collectively they are a force of nature battling to make the world a better place through fundraising and awareness for the American Cancer Society.  I feel privileged to be around such wonderful people.

Harlow: Can you tell us a bit about Marina in RL, do you perform and what music/band or artist has or still does influence you?

Marina:  I was a late bloomer when it comes to performing, as an adult it's harder to find opportunities to sing live when you have limited experience.   I have friends in a local band that I've been sitting in on their practices and hopefully will do a few gigs with them in the near future to gain more experience.

Harlow: When you were a little kid what did you dream of becoming when you got older?

Marina:  No matter how often my dreams changed there was always one common denominator,  be happy!

Harlow: What does Marina Sharpshire like to do when not performing?

Marina:  Marina owns a gaming region.  I built the business more than 8yrs ago, I'm proud that it has a strong foundation and wonderful people who come to chill out at the sim everyday.

Note: Marina didnt advertise her gaming region so I will do it for her :) It's SKYY Gaming and the URL is below

Harlow - Why WORDLE?...haha I should ask myself that same question

Marina:  WORDLE is the devil!!  lol  I'm actually not a word puzzle person but there's something about not having to commit a lot of time to solve it and you can't binge the game because you're limited to 1 per day.

Harlow : Something that I ask everyone that I interview as responses vary. What do you think of the live music scene in SL atm and if you had any advice for someone just starting out or wanting to start out what would it be?

Marina:  My advice to anyone starting out, Let 'er Rip!!  Don't get hung up on how many come to your shows, how much $$ you make or who many or may not like your shows.  We all have good performances and bad performances.  There's room for everyone.

Harlow, you've made me turn the spotlight on myself, something I'm not always comfortable doing, thank you for your interest and all you and your team do for music around the grid! - Marina Sharpshire

Thank You Marina
