There are people in this world that just make you feel good and Krisie Snowdrop is one of those people. Being around Krisie is like being in a ray of sunshine. She has such a beautiful, fun personality with a heart of gold and a giggle that is so infectious that you will smile just being around her. As Droppin' The Streams first "About The Artist" I cant think of a better way to kick off than with the effervescent Ms Snowdrop.
Harlow - Krisie can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to be performing in SL?
Krisie - I never really sang in public. Like every girl, I grew up singing into my hairbrush like a rock star. Then, one night in 2007, I tried Karaoke and had so much fun that I decided to buy the owners Karaoke business the following year.
In SL, I had been hiring DJs and Live Singers for my venue. A friend asked me to sing on voice and said I needed to sing a few at the venue. I was terrified, but I had so much fun that I was hooked! I was able to connect with all my friends on the microphone and interact with those that needed a supportive message, some laughs or to just get wild and crazy.
Harlow - Your shows are always so much fun, (I know as I have cried laughing several times) do you set out with certain playlist in mind or do you just go with the feel of the atmosphere on the day/night?

Krisie - I have tried to make a playlist, but I never follow it. haha Everyone is chatting about something and I see the things mentioned in general chat and that kind of becomes my cue words for the theme of a few songs. Many of my friends have their favorite songs also. So if I see them there, those songs are added right away. And of course, I LOVE to get requests; though, I sometimes mess up songs that I don't sing often. I have about 600 songs in my 'song book'.
Harlow - A lot of artists ask a set fee to perform in here or if they are not paid, they have a tip jar, yet you do neither. Why is that?
Krisie - I spent several years with an awesome manager keeping me booked steady and a regular schedule, I loved that time, but also began to feel like it was a 'job'. Back then, most of my shows had an average crowd of at least 20 people, sometimes up to 40. If I had a low turn-out, I would feel like a disappointment to the venue, get very stressed and it would show in my voice. I had taken a break from SL for several months, and when I returned, I decided I was only singing for fun and not business. With no fee and no tip jar, I encouraged friends to take care of the venue and host. I felt far more fulfilled than any 'hired' gig I ever did. Singing is truly THERAPY for me as well. I get messages that a song that I had just sung lifted someone’s spirt or brought back a wonderful memory, and that I touched their hearts. But truly, singing lets me have all these amazing people in my SL life, and they touch my heart at every show and cheer me up with I am down.
Harlow - You have a great support group around you and the affection you all share is obvious. How important is it to you to have that support at each performance?
Krisie - Harlow, I cannot put into words the amazing group of friends I have. We all care about each other and lift each other up. We know that when coming to a show, we will usually end in being exhausted from laughing and smiling. We are so close, that many of us can read the virtual body language of each other. A quick " How are you”? or " what's up”? is often answered with a good conversation and a brightened mood. It’s good just knowing someone cares and notices when you are down. My band has changed over the years and is never a set group of people. I want people to get up there and pretend they are rock stars right along with me!! Generally, Trishia plays violin or guitar. Neo plays guitar. Gerome is on the drums, and Guardian hosts and guards us and the audience. They are all amazing friends, and I cannot imagine my SL life without them.
Harlow - One thing I always wonder when I see live performers....where are you in RL when you are singing in here, do you have a room set up or are you in your pjs' in the lounge room singing to the cat?
Krisie - With my empty nest, I have downsized to a doublewide mobile home. Being a bit of an adult teenager who likes to game also (World of Warcraft, etc.), You Tube and such, my hubby and I built a 14-foot-wide computer desk (one half of the doublewide) in the living room. We each have half. I have a three-monitor system so that I can have SL screen on one, my backtrack program on another and my broadcasters on the third Yes, I am usually in my pjs, especially this last year, and I am always standing and dancing around while I singing! My mastiff/pit bull is often heard barking out the window at the leaves. Occasionally, my 23-year-old daughter will show up during a show and sing a few songs with me. Also, my hubby and I do a few duets that we have fun with.
The friend who introduced me to SL in 2006 (Tom Weka) stopped to visit me in person on his way through Canada on a motorbike trip. As he was visiting with my hubby, I did a show in SL. I did not hear him sneak in to see me doing the show, he startled me, and I nearly fell over the coffee table. He still laughs that he 'caught me shakin my booty while I was singing'. I am known to make fun of 'my big booty
Harlow - What are your thoughts on the live music industry in SL?
Krisie - The number of amazing performers has risen so much since I started SL in 2006. it is very difficult to attend everyone’s sets, however, I do have my favorites and try to visit them occasionally.
Sadly, I have found that the 'business of performing' has taken the magic out of the Live Music Industry for some, and it shows in their performance, their vocals and their love of it. Back to the huge # of performers, so many think they will be a star overnight. With so much competition, becoming a SL star takes a lot of time.
I joke that I am a 'has been', one of the old timers that is not on the top of the list anymore, but that makes me so incredibly grateful! Because new singers and musicians are finding THEIR magic in this amazing other world now, and they may not have ever put down that hair brush and shared their talent with another soul anywhere. WE are all so lucky.
Harlow - What does Krisie Snowdrop like to do in SL when you aren’t performing?
Krisie - I had been a builder for years, however, technology has jumped so far ahead of my ability that I have given up and am now an avid shopper instead. hehe Recently, I have discovered photography in SL, and I am so excited about my new passion. I’m learning how to use windlight settings and discovering so many amazing photography features; I had no idea they existed in the graphics in Firestorm. I started a Flicker Account and love to upload and follow other incredible inspiring SL photography artists.
Thank You Krisie
