Holly Giles Sings Live @ The Together As One Festival For Feed A Smile – Burning Dragon 18/7/21
“Live and Learn” in Kenya is a charity that provides certain opportunities for needy children mostly in their slum areas. Some of those opportunities include education, food, clothing, medical care and after school activities. “Feed a Smile” is the Second Life division of Live and Learn and helps to provide school meals for these children which, sometimes, may be their only meal for the day. Holly Giles (Hollygiless.heartsong) and Winter (11Winter11) are the creators of this fantastic event “TAO” (Together As One) which is a three day event of awesome SL singers delighting us with their outstanding singing talent. These caring artists, along with other staff, and the venue owner have all donated their time and talents to entertain us and help collect donations for this worthy cause.
It’s a quiet Sunday morning, and when I arrived at the TAO show I expected to hear another singer. However, unfortunately, she was detained due to the floods in Europe. Therefore, Holly Giles stepped up to the plate to cover for her set. I have seen Holly advertised in events, but I never had the opportunity to attend one of her shows. This girl is one of a kind!! Holly comes to us from Australia, has that cute little accent when she speaks and that ever so clear, powerful, raw, sensual voice when she sings.
Holly sang many songs that I’m sure pleased the young and the seasoned of her audience and sang them quite well; Hooked on a Feeling, The Midnight Special, Hungry Eyes, These Boots Were Made for Walking, Dance Monkey and several more. Many of you folks, I am sure, go way back to the 60’s enjoying that youthful carefree existence. Remember that song “Summer of 69” by Bryan Adams? As the lyrics say, “that summer seemed to last forever-and if I had the choice, Ya- I’d always wanna be there-Those were the best days of my life!” Those were the days of fun and no responsibility, borrowing daddy’s car to ride your friends around, falling in love and going steady, the drive in, and staying up late to watch TV. And, if you were really wild and crazy, you stole your momma’s Boone’s Farm Apple wine or dad’s disgusting Iron City Beer and tried to be oh sooo grown up and cool! LOL I loved how Holly made some of her fans reminisce about their younger days with that song!
I saw one of my favorite tunes on Holly’s list, and of course, had to request it. “You Are the Reason” by Calum Scott. It’s a romantic song of how someone’s reason for living is the love of their partner. I stopped and thought, we all have very many reasons for living. Holly and Winter have one incredibly special reason for living besides having each other. They are doing a tremendous job raising donations for these needy Kenya children, and YOU, my friends, with your contributions, are the reason they will have food in their tummies for months to come.
